Our Gold Standard

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12(2)

Gold WreathIn various realms someone or something is referred to as being the “gold standard”. Gold standard is defined as “the best, most reliable, or most prestigious thing of its type.” Of course our Lord hits the ball out of the park in this regard. We read in Hebrews 1(4); “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” His reliability is a matter of record. “Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.” Hebrews 3(1-2) The deal is sealed as the Father speaks from heaven during the baptism of Jesus; “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3(17)

The term gold standard is also defined as “the supreme example of something against which others are judged or measured.” He is certainly our supreme example in our life and labors for the Lord. The spiritual bar is raised high as we read his words in John 8(29); “And he that sent me is with me: the father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

He set the example in ultimate forgiveness at Calvary. “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23(34)

Jesus is truly our Gold Standard, and as we follow Him we will reap a bountiful harvest of precious souls. “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4(19)
