The Requirement of Faithfulness

“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4(1-2)

ClothingtieAmong the things required of a minister of the Lord is faithfulness. Our great God has set the example in faithfulness. We read in Psalm 36(5); “Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.” The scriptures declare in I Thessalonians 5(24); “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” His faithfulness is consistent and we do not have to fear it’s disappearance. “To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.” Psalm 92(2)

He is faithful and He requires faithfulness of His servants. The word faithful speaks of being loyal, reliable and dependable. The question is asked in Proverbs 20(6); “Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” When a truly faithful man appears on the scene, he is to be appreciated and valued. God had confidence in the faithfulness of Abraham. “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” Genesis 18(19)

We have been called to labor in the most important work in the world. It requires faithful men and women who can be counted on to be at their post of duty and to fulfill their assignments. The success of God’s work hinges upon ministers and workers of this caliber.

“For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord.” I Corinthians 4(17)
